About Steven

Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1962, Steven M. Gerson has called Broward County, Florida home since 1979. After a successful career in real estate and mortgage brokerage throughout the 1980s, Steven pursued his passion for law following the birth of his first child in 1989.

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.), Summa Cum Laude – Nova Southeastern University, Shepard Broad College of Law (1994)

While at Nova, Steven graduated 2nd in his class of 272 and served as Executive Editor of the Nova Law Review. At graduation, he received the prestigious Shepard Broad Scholar Award (formerly known as the Dean’s Award), recognizing his exceptional academic achievement.

Legal Career

Steven began his legal journey clerking at the insurance defense firm Peterson and Bernard. From 1993 to 1998, he worked at Ruden, McClosky, Smith, Schuster & Russell, P.A., one of the largest law firms in Fort Lauderdale, handling cases in both real estate and litigation.

In 1998, Steven co-founded the law firm Dearman & Gerson with fellow attorney Mark J. Dearman. Over their 12-year partnership, they successfully represented clients in:

• Insurance defense matters
• Personal injury and accident claims
• Medical malpractice cases
• Real estate transactions

Judicial & Community Service

Under his judicial service role, Steven served for 19 years as a part-time Broward County Traffic Hearing Officer/Magistrate, presiding over traffic-related matters at the West Satellite Courthouse in Plantation.

In 2025, he resigned as Magistrate to join the Florida Highway Patrol Advisory Council, where he helps advance the Council’s mission of providing FHP troopers with resources that support them in delivering quality service to the public and improving their personal well-being.

Personal Life

Steven lives in Plantation, Florida, with his wife of 39 years and their adult daughter and two sons. He continues to stay actively involved in the local legal and civic community while maintaining a client-centered approach in his private practice.
